Sport activities in Alcudia
While it is true that the beaches at
Puerto Alcúdia and Playa de Muro can suit the most sedentary
of sun-worshipper, the sea offers the more active a variety
of fun and excitement. And it is the water that is one of the
main focuses of sport in Alcúdia and Playa de Muro. The
shallow waters make bathing extremely safe, and it’s rare
to get a red-flag day during summer.
There are ample opportunities for scuba diving, jet- and water-skiing,
wind- and kite-surfing, the latter definitely en vogue right
now. And on something more substantial than a large white plank,
boat hire is to be had together with sailing tuition. Go down
to the Puerto Deportivo Alcudiamar (the nautical port) and check
out Mallorca
Yacht Charter & Training for both yachts and powerboats.
You could also venture a bit further afield to Puerto Pollensa
where Sail
& Surf offer windsurfing and yachting and Tudor
Dawn Charters have sailing and fun-day cruises on a superb
schooner.
On dry land, cycling has become a hugely popular past-time
and a major tourist element in its own right, especially in
the quieter late winter and spring seasons. Whether cycling
for pleasure or in training, the area in and around Puerto
Alcúdia is good cycling terrain as hills are not too
far away, while from the port itself along the coast road
going east through Playa de Muro, Ca’n Picafort and
further, the road is generally flat. Just one thing. We positively
don’t want to preach on this website, but please do
take care. Accidents do unfortunately happen, and there is
no shortage of nutters on four wheels. For all things cycling,
be sure to look up Niu Wave (in the town of Alcúdia)
and Sport Bequi (in Puerto Alcúdia).
Tennis is a massive sport in Spain, and Mallorca and Alcúdia
are no different. The Mallorcan role models for aspiring locals
are Carlos Moya and Rafael Nadal, two of Spain’s many
top players. Just one location to get a hit is Tenis Las Palmeras.
Another change from the beach is provided in the form of
go-karting. Jorge and the boys at Karting
Magic offer you plenty of thrills. And while there may
not be too much serious swimming at Hidropark,
this offers a great fun day - and it is the only waterpark
in the north of Mallorca.
Since October 2003, Alcudia can also boast its own golf course.
The Club de Golf Alcanada, designed by Robert Trent Jones,
offers a fairly testing 18 holes on what might be described
as links, so it’s not a course for the beginner. This
said, we have overheard experienced golfers claim that it’s
a bit too easy.
